Introduction of the school
Šiauliai “Romuvos” Gymnasium is an upper-secondary school which provides general education. It was established on September 1, 2005 after the reorganization of “Romuvos” Secondary School which split into two institutions: a basic school and a gymnasium. Now we are associated partners closely collaborating with each other. Currently more than 750 students and 64 highly-qualified teachers are enrolled in educational process. The headmaster of the gymnasium is Vytautas Giedraitis. “Romuvos” Gymnasium is a modern school with well-equipped science labs, teacher preparation areas, a rich modernized library, a reading room and a renovated gym. All classrooms are equipped with up-to-date teaching materials, computers and multimedia. It is the only school in the city which can offer special facilities for disabled students. “Romuvos” Gymnasium offers a 2-year course of lower secondary education (for students aged 15-16) and a 2-year course of upper-secondary education (for students aged 17-19). The senior students can choose subjects to compile their individual timetables. Besides the basic subjects, the students can select some optional subjects or modules. The curricula of different subjects provide integrated, individualized and differentiated education. In Maths, Lithuanian and English classes are divided into smaller mobile groups according to students’ abilities and academic achievements. This educational system develops students’ personalities, encourages them to participate and win in different regional and national contests, competitions and Olympiads. School-leavers’ high academic achievements give them opportunities to study in different national and European universities. The gymnasium offers a great variety of extra-curricular activities such as art, music, sport clubs. Moreover, the school community is actively involved in project work. We participate in various local, regional and international projects such as Comenius, Nordplus, UNESCO and others. Students communicate with project partners from Germany, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Poland, Estonia, Ukraine, Latvia, Finland and France. The school has always cherished its traditions and events. The community enjoys participating in such annual events as Gymnasium Day, Family Day, a 100 Day Party, the Last Bell Festival, School leaving party, etc. The students can show their talents, taking part in different competitions, for example, Talent Show, basketball tournament to win the Cup of Headteacher V.
