SOCRATES
Comenius 1.2

Countries of Silk and Linen : Ethnocultural Dialogue

SUMMARY

The idea of this exchange was born last November during the Comenius 2.2 course in Bristol where the two teachers involved in the development of this project met and discussed the idea of organizing an exchange between our two schools that could give our students not only the chance to learn about a new culture and improve their linguistic competence in English, but also to find common ideas and issues in two such different countries. The aim of our project will be not only to promote European linguistic diversity and motivate students to study foreign languages by using active communicative methods, but also to educate them to the respect of the diversity, to promote the personal growth of the participants and to increase their cultural awareness. This Comenius project will, moreover, add a European dimension to the school curriculum. The common topic chosen - the textile traditions in both countries: silk for Italy and linen for Lithuania -will be the starting point of a study on the cultural heritage of the two countries.
